A leading boss of the Camorra organised crime syndicate has been arrested in Italy.

Salvatore Russo, 51, regarded as one of the 30 most wanted and dangerous mafia fugitives, had been on the run since 1995. He had been living in secret lodgings hidden behind a boiler in a house on the outskirts of Naples. Russo had been convicted in his absence to life in prison for murder and criminal association with the mafia. Interior Minister Roberto Maroni described the arrest as a “very heavy blow” for Italy’s most deadly crime organisation. “We are closing the net on the Camorra superfugitives,” he told reporters. In a separate development, police also said they had identified a man captured by security cameras carrying out a cold-blooded assassination outside a Naples grocers’ store.
