A newspaper in Denmark which published cartoons about Islam is believed to have been the intended target of a terrorist plot.

Two men have been arrested in the American city of Chicago and according to US police, were planning a series of over seas attacks. It’s alleged the two were outraged by the paper’s publication of drawings of the Prophet Mohammed. The arrests were a result of a joint US and Danish security operation. Jakob Scharf, Director General Danish Intelligence Service outlined what the operation had discovered. “One of the arrested individuals has an extensive network that includes leading militant extremists in Pakistan who not only wish to strike against Denmark, but who have previously proven capable of performing ruthless acts of terrorism.” Jyllands-Posten, Denmark’s highest circulation daily newspaper, triggered anger in the Muslim world by publishing 12 cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in 2005. Demonstrators burned Danish flags in protests which culminated in 2006 with the torching of Danish diplomatic offices in Damascus and Beirut.More about: Denmark, Terrorism
