The Molodist Film Festival – featuring work by young film directors – has opened in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko made an appearance. Tony Gatlif heads up the jury. There are 13 films in competition at the festival, which runs along with various retrospectives until the 1st of November. Catherine Deneuve received a lifetime achievement award.
The International Festival for Documentary and Animation Film has kicked off in Leipzig. Over 330 films from 69 countries are on the programme and 148 film directors are invited. There will also be a special programme to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Another important focus is on documentary film from Africa. The festival runs until the 1st of November.
