At the Rome Film Festival this year, the best film prize was won by Broderskab directed by Nicolo Donato. The film tells the story of a homophobic Nazi thug who finds himself falling for another man.

Giorgio Diritti’s film “L’uomo che Verra” won two prizes. The film depicts life in a small Italian village in the days leading up to a Nazi massacre. Said the director, “My film tells everyone’s story in a sense. People who, 60 years ago, found themselves in adverse circumstances… “

Helen Mirren won the best actress award for playing Tolstoy’s wife in “The Last Station” directed by Michael Hoffman.

Sergio Castellito dedicated his best actor award to Italian cinema, to its glorious past, difficult present and magificent future.

In Alessandro Angelini’s film “Alza La Testa”, Castellito plays a father living out his boxing dreams through his son.

And topping the bill, the world’s favourite actress, Meryl Streep, collected a lifetime achievement award.
