Pakistan has been hit by a wave of terrorist bombings, six days after the army went on the offensive against the Taliban. Eight people died and 13 more were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra, north of Islamabad. Military sources were quick to dismiss rumours the base is linked to Pakistan’s nuclear programme.

Hours later 16 members of a wedding party were killed when their minibus hit a mine in a tribal area close to the Afghan border. A third blast was then reported in the northern city of Peshawar. 15 people were injured, two seriously, when a suspected car bomb exploded outside a hotel restaurant. The attacks come as Pakistan continues its assault on Taliban strongholds in lawless South Waziristan in the mountains near Afghanistan. The fighting has forced thousands of people to flee their homes and seek safety. The Taliban has threatened a bloodbath in Pakistan, trying to weaken the government’s fight against Islamic militancy amid growing pressure from America.More about: Attack, Pakistan
