Romanian opposition demands new PM

Opposition parties in Romania are stepping up the heat on the country’s president in the search for a new government.

The parties have voted on a resolution that calls for the Mayor of Sibiu, Klaus Iohannis, to be made Prime Minister. The move is a total rejection of the candidate put forward by the president, economist Lucian Croitoru. President Traian Basescu had given Croitura ten days to form a cabinet and seek a confidence vote in parliament. But this latest declaration in parliament seems to torpedo the chances of things going smoothly for the president. An opposition motion brought down the previous centre-right government earlier this month.More about:
