Written and directed by Alejandro Amenabar (think Vanilla Sky, think The Others) with a budget of 50 million euros, Agora plays for a hefty 144 minutes – ie nearly two and a half hours.

This epic historical drama (sweeping in its scope, natch) tells the tale of a female librarian Hypatia living in the 4th century AD. Turmoil rages as the Roman Empire crumbles ensuring plenty of action for Rachael Weisz, Oscar Isaac and Max Minghella.

Despite a worthy pedigree, reasonable reviews, a budget of 50 million euros and a premier at Cannes (out of competition) the movie is only on release in Spain, Canada and Israel this autumn and there is no release date for a dvd.

Obviously the producers must be hot on the heels of other distribution deals – but the film is already the subject of bad vibe rumours…
