Arrested al-Qaeda suspect worked for CERN  

It has been revealed that one of two people arrested in France this week accused of having links to al-Qaeda worked at a nuclear research centre in Geneva.

The physicist, the elder of two arrested Algerian brothers, worked at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, or CERN. The men are accused of having links with Al Qaeda’s north African wing. The French Interior Minister, Brice Hortefeux, said: “Maybe the inquiry will show that thanks to these arrests the worst may have been avoided.” The physicist and his brother were taken into custody in the southeastern French town of Vienne, not far from Lyon. However, CERN says its employee did not come into contact with anything that could be used for terrorism.
