Olympic Host City 2016 To Be Decided

US President Barack Obama flew into Denmark today to support Chicago’s bid to hold the 2016 Olympic Games.

He is the first sitting American president to address an International Olympic Committee (IOC). Obama began his career in the windy city of Chicago as a community organiser. Obama was not the only statesman there. Japan’s newly elected Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama arrived with his wife. Brazilian President Lula Da Silva was there, as was the Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. The four competing cities are Madrid, Tokyo, Chicago and Rio de Janeiro. IOC president Jacques Rogge said: “Dear IOC colleagues, in the coming days you will make several significant decisions. You will select the host city for the 2016 Games from four excellent candidates and you will vote on a proposal to add two new sports to the Olympic programme.” Obama will make the first 45 minute presentation to the IOC and bookmakers have put Chicago as the odds on favourite.
