The Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed El Baradei is expected to travel to Tehran this weekend, to work out the details for the inspection of a newly revealed uranium enrichment plant in Iran.

The visit follows talks in Geneva yesterday between the chief Iranian nuclear negotiator and representatives of key Western powers. During the talks, Tehran agreed in principle to allow some enrichment to take place in Russia and France, rather than within its borders and to allow inspections of the plant near Qum over the next two weeks. It had kept that facility secret until last month, and insists it had the right to do so. Tehran says its nuclear programme is to produce electricity not weapons. If Iran honours the deal to allow enrichment outside of its borders, it will reduce its ability to develop nuclear weapons. But western officials fear Tehran will back out of the agreement.
