The families of victims killed by the Samoan Tsunami have begun to bury their loved ones.

At least 149 people have perished and local authorities expect that number to rise to 200. As of Friday morning, there were 110 bodies at the morgue of main state hospital in Apia. Samiafaleio was looking after her 4 grandchildren when the tsunami struck: “I was holding the hand of my grandchild when the wave hit us. I didn’t know what happened. I just couldn’t hold him more. We got separated. I couldn’t see him anymore. Branches and debris were hitting my body. Everything was being carried away. I couldn’t see the children. I lost them.” The body of one of the grandchildren has been found. One other is still unaccounted for and the other two are safe. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said the quake struck at a depth of 33km, some 190km from Apia. Small tsunamis reached areas as far away as New Zealand, Hawaii and Japan.
