Strong quake hits off Indonesia

A strong earthquake has just struck off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
 
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake, with an epicentre 20 km off Padang, had a magnitude of 7.9. 
 
According to eyewitnesses, the quake has damaged houses and bridges, and caused fires in the city of Padang.
 
The Indonesian meteorology agency has issued no tsunami warning.
