Polanski appeals extradition to America

The acclaimed film director Roman Polanski has launched a legal battle against his extradition to the United States for sentencing on underage sex charges. A ruling on the appeal is expected in the next few weeks, and Polanski’s legal team is hopeful of keeping him out of America.

“We have offered bail and guarantees which should reassure Switzerland that, during this appeal, Mr Polanski will stay on Swiss soil,” said the director’s French lawyer Herve Temime. “He owns a chalet here, and comes here regularly, and he would agree to being kept under house arrest during the extradition hearing.” Polanski had gone to Switzerland to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival. Instead, he was picked up on a US arrest warrant, and is being held in prison while he fights extradition.More about:
