Portuguese Elections: voting underway

One of Portugal’s leading citizens, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, cast his ballot in Lisbon.

According to surveys before the election, many of the country’s other voters hadn’t made up their minds whether to go to the ballot boxes or not. But despite this, turnout at noon was 21.29 percent, only slightly down on that of the vote four years ago. In 2005 it was 21.93. Two million people in all turned out by midday to make their choice of leader and government. Among them, the Portuguese President Cavaco Silva, who launched an appeal to the rest of voters to follow suit.More about:
