CDU puts positive spin on Berlin defeat The German Chancellor Angela Merkel has voted today. While she’s the favourite, polls suggest she may no longer have enough support to be able to ditch her Social Democrat coalition partner. She has been criticised for running a cautious campaign that lacked passion and substance.
The campaign has also been overshadowed by security concerns following a series of al-Qaeda messages warning Germany to pull their troops out of Afghanistan.
