Chinese director Lu Chuan has won the coveted Golden Shell award at the San Sebastian film festival for his portait of the Sino-Japanese war “City of Life and death”.

The film, shot in black and white, took four years to complete and focuses on the battle of Nanjing in 1937. Best actor award went to Pablo Pineda, who has downs syndrome, for his performance in “Yo tambien” a film depicting a young man in Sevilla who suffers from the condition. The film mirrors Pineda’s own life – like the character he plays, the actor has won a University diploma. The actress Lola Duenas, who played opposite Pineda in the film, received the best actress award.More about: , ,
