The Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki is exhibiting an extensive collection of Picasso’s work from all periods of his life.
Says Kristina von Knorring, the exhibition coordinator: “He inspired many artists through the years. We will never get tired of his art. Picasso worked in many disciplines and styles, like drawings and water paintings, and has done everything from oil paintings to photographs and sculpture, which people relate to.” This is the first comprehensive exhibition of Picasso’s work ever seen in Finland. There are nearly two hundred works on display from the collections of the Musée National Picasso in Paris: paintings, sculptures, prints and photographs. Picasso’s work, although almost universally admired, is not always easy to understand. The museum director, Anne Baldassari, speaking about his work commented: “This painting is speaking to everybody. We are just not to be afraid , we have to take the courage to approach this painting, to be exhibited to the painting.” The exhibition runs until next January.
