Muslims across the globe are celebrating Eid Al Fiter, three days of festivities, which mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Islam traces a lunar calendar, and the timing of Eid Al Fiter varies around the world and depends on when the new crescent moon comes into view. In Europe, where millions of Muslims live, the faithful came together to pray such is the demand that thousands may flock to the mosque. In Rome Muslims disobeyed a city ban and came together in a central piazza. The mayor of Rome denied a request for prayers to take place there and as many as 30,000 people were expected to attend the city’s only mosque. In the Greek capital Athens Muslims celebrated in the walkway of the Olympic stadium. Athens is the only European capital without a proper working mosque and long standing promises by the authorities to construct one have not been met.More about: Islam, Religion
