Friday’s demonstrations in Tehran in support of the Palestinians showcased anti-Israeli sentiment. Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad went on the attack again, calling confrontation with Israel a “national duty.”

He repeated his assertion that the Holocaust was a “lie” and used as a “pretext” to create a Jewish state based on an “unprovable and mythical claim”. But the UN’s nuclear watchdog has just expressed satisfaction that Arab states have not renewed a boycott on a resolution calling for a nuclear-free Middle East which they applied last year. Only one IAEA member voted against – Israel. “In our view, progress towards realising this vision cannot be made without a fundamental change in the regional circumstances, including a significant transformation in the attitude of some states in the region towards the state of Israel,” said Israel’s IAEA representative David Danieli.
