Deadly flash floods hit Turkey

world news

| |

Flash floods triggered by torrential rain have left at least nine people dead and several missing in north west Turkey.

Istanbul and surrounding areas appear the most badly hit. The heavy rain began late Monday and washed away bridges and roads while cars were swept into the sea. Just north of Istanbul two international motorways linking Turkey to its northern neighbours were closed temporarily. The Turkish military has sent helicopters to rescue people trapped in their homes. In the town of Saray the bodies of a mother and her three daughters were recovered. The search is still on for the father. Weather forecasters are warning of more rain in the next 24 hours.More about: ,
