Another boat sinks near Philippines

world news

Just 24 hours after the Philippines ferry accident that left nine people dead, another ship has sunk off the country’s coast.

The Panamanian-registered MV Hera with 19 people on board sank off the island of Samar. All on board have reportedly been rescued. The ship was on its way to China carrying a cargo of timber. Ferries are an important form of transport for the Philippines, an archepelago with more than 7,000 islands. However, many accidents occur because of overcrowding or poor maintenance. Coastguard officials say search and rescue operations are continuing to make sure no one is left in the waters after Sunday’s incident. Rescuers saved 957 people on board the packed ferry that sank off the island of Mindanao.More about: , ,
