Thousands of air passengers face travel chaos following the collapse of the Slovak low-cost carrier, SkyEurope. The firm, which served mainly continental Europe, has been struggling to restructure debt, and has now filed for bankruptcy, and has cancelled all its flights.

Hit hard by the economic slowdown, SkyEurope’s debts have soared to 100 million euros while its fleet of aircraft has shrunk like its passenger numbers. Prague airport has barred SkyEurope landings because it’s failed to pay outstanding bills. It has left planes and people grounded across Europe. Customers who have paid for tickets with credit cards should be able to obtain a refund but those who’ve used other methods might not be so lucky.More about: Air traffic, Airlines, Bankruptcy, Slovakia
