The new exhibition at the V and A in London is called “Telling Tales: Fear and Fantasy in Contemporary Design” and looks at the darker side of contemporary design. Themes include fantasy, parody and mortality. In this world, nothing is quite what it seems.

The exhibition was divided into three sections. The forest glade looks at fairy tales, nature, myths, and pastoral themes. The enchanted castle section looks at historical design, status symbols, wealth and luxury. The Heaven and Hell section contains works dealing with anxiety, mortality and death. The works on display have stories to tell. They show how design is linked to history and the imagination – particularly our fantasies and our fears. Fairytales are often psychologically revealing and these works reflect that. The exhibition runs until 18th October and admission is free. For more information see: www.vam.ac.ukMore about: , ,
