One of Italy’s top tourist attractions is off-limits because of a vile smell coming from its waters.

Police closed the Blue Grotto in Naples Bay on Tuesday after a strange foam like substance was spotted in the cave’s waters. The latest shut down comes a week after authorities found raw sewage being dumped next to the holiday hot spot. Environmental health experts are conducting tests to see if the stench has anything to do with the cesspool dumping, however their are fears other unspecified waste may have been ditched next to the Grotto. Two men suspected of dumping last week’s sewage are to appear in court later this week. The mafia is known to have a stranglehold on Italy’s lucrative waste disposal sector and is known to regularly flout enviromental rules, particularly in Southern Italy.More about: ,
