We live in the age of synthetic materials, but we are paying a price. Thousands of sculptures, iconic designs, historic films and photographs are at risk as they deteriorate with age.
Now groundbreaking research and tests are under way in a bid to protect our cultural heritage.
In Paris and London,the home to many important museums and galleries, scientists are running experiments to understand how the chemical structure of plastic changes.
It is work that is still in it’s infancy but may help preserve a large part of our cultural heritage that can never be replaced.
