One of the youngest detainees held at Guantanamo Bay has been released and is now home with his family in Afghanistan.

According to his lawyers Mohammed Jawad was only twelve years old when he was captured after allegedly throwing a grenade at US Marines. The Pentagon says the young man was at least 18 according to medical tests. Jawad is the latest detainee to be freed from the facility that was opened under the Bush administration and which President Obama has pledged to close by the middle of January. Much of the evidence against Jawad was thrown out becuase it was, according to his lawyers, obtained under torture. There are still around 230 prisoners wtill held in Guantanamo Bay.More about: Afghanistan, Guantanamo
