US issues worldwide travel alert amid Iran plot Interpol has confirmed that the man set to become Iran’s new Defence Minister is on a list of men wanted in connection with the bombing of a Jewish centre in Argentina.
Ahmad Vahidi, who has been the subject of an Interpol “red notice” for almost two years, was nominated by President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. The Iranian parliament still has to confirm his appointment as defence minister. Both Argentina and Israel have condemned the choice. Argentine authorities issued an arrest warrant for Vahidi, which led to him being put on Interpol’s “red notice” list, a kind of database of wanted individuals, in November 2007. Vahidi is accused of planning the bombing of the Jewish centre and making the decision to go ahead with the attack that killed 85 people in 1994.
