A wave of Islamist-inspired violence continues in Russia’s mainly Muslim North Caucasus.

In the Chechen capital Grozny, suicide bombers on bicycles launched separate attacks killing at least four policemen. Early reports had talked about a series of explosions.

The Republic of Chechnya is federally attached to Russia. Rebels want to create an Islamic state.

Newly rebuilt after two devastating secessionist wars, Grozny has seen a series of terrorist bombings in recent months.

With this has also come concern voiced by western observers over lawlessness tearing at the new Chechnya, including the murder of humanitarian workers and urgent calls for thorough investigation by the authorities in Grozny.
