A rockslide at a beach in the Algarve in Portugal has killed as many as five people and injured three others, three more are thought to be missing.

Parts of a cliff crashed down onto the packed Maria Luisa beach at Albufeira.

The accident happened around noon with rocks cascading down causing mass panic on the crowded beach. Firefighters are at the scene searching for those missing believed to be buried under the sand. The Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva has visited the beach, popular with locals and tourists, to lend his support to victims and rescue workers.More about: ,
