North Korea has agreed to re-open its border with the South and allow tourism and family reunions again.

The deal to open the border was secured by South Korea’s Hyundai group, which heads up tourism in the North. It will open crucial sources of income for destitute for North Korea which is grappling with years of UN sanctions and isolation. North and South Korea are technically still at war. Over half a century has passed since civil war which ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty. On one side of the border are 600,000 South Korean forces, backed by nearly 30,000 American. The North has just over a million soldiers. Meanwhile the North has, as it routinely does, condemned joint US and South Korean military war games south of the border. The North said it will deliver a massive military response if there are any violations of its sovereignty.
