Gang sought over 40 million pound UK gem heist

Police investigating what it thought to be the biggest jewel robbery in British history have released security camera footage of two suspects. A female member of staff was assaulted and warning shots fired during the raid at Graff Jewellers in London’s upmarket Mayfair district. No-one was injured as 43 items worth 40 million pounds – more than 46 million euros – were stolen. The pair of smartly-dressed suspects made no attempt to hide their faces and police hope they will be identified.

“They are fairly distinctive men within the pictures,” said Detective Chief Inspector Pam Mace. “I am hoping that someone is going to say: ‘I know who that is’ and ring us and tell us who it is. Because somebody out there knows who these men are. And we are hoping they will come forward and give us the information.” Last Thursday’s raid was not the first time this Graff store has been targeted. Jewellery worth 23 million pounds was stolen there in 2003.More about: ,
