Last man captured from Belgian jailbreak

The third of three men who escaped from a Belgian jail in spectacular fashion using a hijacked helicopter has been recaptured in Morocco.

Ashraf Sekkaki, 25, is described by Interpol as one of Belgium’s most dangerous criminals. His fellow escapee, Mohamed Johri, was caught three days ago, also in Morocco. Fien Maddens from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, explained that there was not much hope of Sekkaki returning to Belgium. “Sekkaki has, like Johri, Moroccan nationality. This means he won’t be handed back to Belgium. Morocco never hands over its citizens,” he said. A third man, who was captured earlier, never left Belgium and was found holed up in an apartment in Brussels. The helicopter the three used to make their escape was later found abandoned. It had originally been flown by an accomplice directly into the prison near Bruges. The July break-out was described at the time as being like a scene from an action film.More about: , ,
