| |

A bomb has gone off in a beachfront bar in the capital of the Balearic island of Majorca and two more devices have been destroyed in controlled explosions.

Spanish security forces say the first bomb exploded in a bar called La Rigoletta, in front of a beach called Playa de Can Pere Antoni, in Palma. The second bomb was found in the ladies’ toilet of a nearby restaurant and bar called Enco and the third device was found in an hotel. The area has been sealed off and buildings have been evacuated. Sniffer dogs are searching for more explosives. A telephone warning was made in the name of Eta shortly before the first bomb went off. There are no reports of any injuries. Today marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Eta which is campaigning for an independent homeland in Spain’s Basque region.More about: , , ,
