A French teacher and an Iranian employed by the British embassy in Tehran are among a second group of people on trial in the Iranian capital following the disputed presidential election in June.

British embassy employee Hossein Rassam was held after the post-election protests with eight other embassy colleagues and later released on bail. Clotilde Reiss, a 23-year-old French language teacher who works for the French embassy in Tehran has acknowledged giving information to the embassy and appealed for clemency. She is accused of collecting information and provoking rioters. The UK Foreign Office says the trial is an “outrage” which is in breach of past assurances from senior Iranian officials. Rassam, who is facing espionage charges, has also appealed to the court in Tehran to show clemency and pardon his “mistakes”. Human rights groups say hundreds of people, including reformist politicians, journalists, activists and lawyers have been detained in Iran since the presidential poll.More about: France, Iran
