You may not be familiar with his name, but you’ll certainly remember his films.

John Hughes who died yesterday after a heart attack in New York was aged 59. The US writer/director/producer and actor made some of the most memorable teen films of the 80’s. many of which are regarded as cinema icons. Many of them are set in the area where he grew up, Northbrook, Illinois and his ear for teenage dialogue and culture made his films among the most successful of the 1980’s. John Hughes began life as an advertising copywriter before working for satirical magazine National Lampoon. His greatest commercial success came from his production of Home Alone, but many will remember him for his iconic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.More about: ,
