At least 10 people have been killed after being caught in a mudslide in the Philippines.

The victims were coming back from climbing the Minatubo volcano North West of Manila when flooding prompted the mudslide – seven Philipinos died as well as two French and one Belgian tourist. Thousand of residents had to be evacuated from the region. The flooding was provoked by a category two typhoon which dumped heavy rains causing a dike to collapse. The Typhoon also hit Taiwan, causing air traffic to be cancelled and schools and businesses to shut down for the day. Winds reached 149 kilometres per hour and some 500 millimetres of rain fell in mountain areas.More about: , ,
