Three employees of the Russian emergencies ministry and two police officers have been shot dead in the Caucasus region. The three workers were ambushed by gunmen just before midnight on Saturday in the region of Ingushetia. They are the latest attacks in the violence-torn area which are mainly directed against local authorities loyal to Moscow.

Meanwhile the two policemen were killed in Dagestan when their patrol vehicle came under fire from a passing car. The Ingusheta and Dagestan regions have large Moslem populations. Islamic militants are suspected of being responsible for these latest killings.More about: , ,
