Colombia says it has found Swedish-made weapons, including anti-tank rocket launchers, in a raid on a camp belonging to FARC rebels.

It says the weapons came from Venezuela which is believed to have bought such weapons from Sweden in the 1980s. But Caracas rejects any suggestion it has been supplying the FARC. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said such claims were part of a “dirty, vulgar campaign” aimed at justifying military bases threatening the region – an apparent reference to plans to increase the US military presence in Colombia. It is not the first time FARC rebels have been the focal point of tensions between Colombia and Venezuela. Bogota has long accused Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s administration of helping Latin America’s oldest and largest insurgency.
