Ferrari’s Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa is in a stable condition after fracturing his skull in a freak accident during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Brazilian was rushed to hospital in Budapest for emergency surgery after being hit on the head by bouncing debris from compatriot Ruben Barrichello’s Brawn car. Ferrari confirmed Massa suffered no further complications during the night. His distressed family were flying to the Hungarian capital on Saturday to be with him. ‘‘I ask you all, no matter from which faith, to pray for him.’‘ His wife Anna Rafaela Massa said. The Ferrari driver is expected to have a CT scan today to assess possible brain damage. Yesterday’s chaotic qualifying session ended with Spanish driver Fernando Alonso grabbing pole position.More about: ,
