Mass suicide attack in Afghanistan

Up to seven suicide bombers attacked government buildings in the East Afghanistan city of Khost, but appear to have inflicted few, if any, casualties.

The attacks came during a spike in violence ahead of the August the twentieth Presidential election It was unclear which attackers were shot dead by security forces and how many managed to detonate their explosive vests. Afghanistan’s interior ministry says six of the bombers, armed with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades, attacked Khost’s police station and nearby buildings. Khost has seen many such attacks over the years. In May, four suicide bombers launched an assault in Khost killing at least six people. One of the presidential candidates, Ramazan Bashardost, was in Khost but was not affected by today’s bombings. July has become the deadliest month in the eight year war for American, British and other foreign forces in Afghanistan. Four Italian soldiers have been injured and in Helmund another British soldier has died.More about: , ,
