At least 21 people have been killed in a road accident in Russia.

A petrol tanker and a bus smashed into each other in the southern Rostov region. The fuel truck was not carrying a load and there was no explosion. But the mangled wreckage bore witness to the impact of the head-on collision. Both drivers were killed 60 kilometres from Rostov- on-Don, on a highway where more lives have been lost in crashes than on any other road in Russia. Children are among the 21 dead. At least nine people were injured. While the cause of the accident has not been established, police believe the tanker crossed into the oncoming lane. Russia has a poor record on road safety. This is its second major bus accident this week, with eight people killed and dozens injured in a crash in Siberia overnight on SundayMore about: ,
