Hundreds of thousands of Europeans suffer from a traumatic spinal cord injury, or SCI that leaves them wheelchair-bound for life. The European Union is backing the RESCUE project, which aims to find new ways of repairing an injured spinal cord by using human stem cells from bone marrow and the central nervous system.
