Tension on Bali after Jakarta bomb blasts

Friday’s suicide attacks in Jakarta have revived fears of terrorism on Bali, where security has been tightened.

Indonesia’s tourist island has taken years to recover after it was targeted in 2005 and 2002 when more than 200 people were killed in bomb blasts, many of them foreign tourists. Some visitors however think Bali is unlikely to be hit a third time. Australian tourist Ian McBridge said: “You know it is going to happen all the time, but you don’t know where or when. But I don’t think it will happen in Bali again, so I feel safe here.” The Jemaah Islamiah network has been blamed for bloodshed on the island in the past. According to at least one tourist guide, if mass murder visits its shores again, it will be the end of Bali as a resort.More about: , , ,
