European car sales rose in June their first increase in fourteen months.

They were up 2.4 percent year-on-year with nearly 1,462,000 vehicles being registered in Europe.

It is a further sign the battered industry may be past its low point.

Sales were lifted by government cash incentives in major markets to scrap old vehicles for newer, less-polluting ones.
