An Italian soldier has been killed and three others hurt in a roadside bomb attack in Western Afghanistan.
Authorities say a parachute regiment was hit while on patrol in a convoy in Farah province.
July has already turned out to be the bloodiest month for foreign troops for nearly a year. Last week, eight British soldiers died in a single day in Helmand province.
Their bodies have been flown back to Wiltshire in the southwest of England. Three of the men were aged just 18.
The deaths have sparked intense political debate about Britain’s involvement in the war in Afghanistan.
Britain has now lost 184 soldiers in operations there, five more than during the campaign in Iraq.
