Workers at a bankrupt car-parts company are threatening to blow up their factory if they don’t receive 30,000 euros in compensation.

They say they will detonate gas canisters inside the building if there is no deal by the end of the month. They have already destroyed some machinery outside to prove they are serious. A union representative said workers had burnt the equipment as a symbol of their anger. More than 350 workers want 30,000 euros each from their former company’s two main clients, Renault and Peugeot. Inside the factory in Chatellerault there is stock and state-of-the-art technology worth millions of euros. The laid-off workers don’t want Renault and Peugeot getting their hands on it for free, especially after the car-makers received public money to help them survive the recession.
