French workers threaten to blow up factory

world news

French workers at a bankrupt car-parts company are threatening to blow up their factory if they do not receive compensation for being laid off.

They say they will detonate gas canisters if they are not paid 30,000 euros each by their company’s biggest clients, Peugeot and Renault. One worker said: “They have completely abandoned us. It is deplorable. We’ve worked with them for 60 years.” Inside the factory there is stock and equipment worth up to four million euros. That is much less than the total of 11 million euros the workers want in compensation, but employees are still holding out hope that their drastic action will succeed. They have set a deadline for the end of July, otherwise they say they will make good on their threat. Renault and Peugeot have responded by saying it is not up to them to pay off their bankrupt supplier’s staff.More about: , ,
