Its being claimed that the publisher of the UK’s biggest selling Sunday newspaper paid more than a million euros in out-of-court settlements after its journalists were accused of illegal phone tapping.

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation has made no comment on the claims, printed in a centre-left broadsheet, the Guardian. “They are saying there are thousands of these targets, people who had their mobile phones hacked and that what we’ve got in the criminal case involving Clive Goodman a year or two ago was just one tiny fragment of the picture of criminal behaviour involving journalists from this newspaper.” said Guardian reporter Nick Davies. The News of the World’s editor resigned over the issue and is now head of communications for the opposition Conservative Party. Its alleged up to three thousand public figures, including former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott were targeted. The paper’s royal editor was jailed for four months in 2007 after admitting hacking into messages.More about: United Kingdom
