Michael Jackson fans are swarming into downtown Los Angeles for a star-packed public memorial to the “King of Pop”.
The singer’s sudden death from a heart attack, nearly two weeks ago, shocked the world.
His coffin is being transported to the Staples Center for a memorial service which will mix old and new singers like Mariah Carey, Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder.
A string of other celebrities are also expected to attend along with a host of sports stars such as basketball’s Kobe Bryant of the LA Lakers and Magic Johnson.
Police estimate more than 250,000 people will fill the pavements outside the arena to pay their final respect to the “Thriller” singer and one-time member of Motown legends the Jackson 5, who was 50 years-old when he died.
Media reports say family members gathered late on Monday night for a private viewing of Jackson’s body at the Forest Lawn cemetery where a private service is likely later today.
