The race is on to get hold of tickets for Michael Jackson’s memorial service on Tuesday but the process is proving frustrating for many fans.
Some waiting outside the venue in Los Angeles were panic-stricken to learn their only chance of getting a seat would be through an Internet lottery.
What is more, only US residents can apply, meaning disappointment for Jackson fans worldwide who had hoped to attend.
Judith Shenkman has flown across the Atlantic from Edinburgh, Scotland, to be in Los Angeles.
“I really wanted to be where Michael was,” she said.
A massive security operation is planned amid fears thousands of ticketless fans could descend on the arena.
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry, who is doubling as the city’s acting mayor, said:
“I want to stress to those people who are coming or thinking about coming here to our city for this special event, you might want to consider watching this from the comfort of your own home.”
So controversy continues to follow Michael Jackson even after his death. But for the 11,000 fans who do get a prized free ticket to say a final farewell to their idol at the Staples Center, this will be one show they will never forget.
